A team of ten riders from Bridlington CC were on show in Beverley on Saturday to take part in the early season leg losener that is the 24mile 2-up time trial.
First off was Trish and Ian taking part in this event for the first time and posted a respectable time of 68.18s
Next pair of Bridlington road warriors was Steve and Adam. A good mixture of youth and experience, climbing prowess and diesel engine saw them overhaul Trish and Ian quite quickly. The pair were working well together until disaster struck when Steve hit a pothole at full pelt and had a nasty spill onto the road with about three miles to go. After a few mins recovering his composure and checking for broken bones he managed to climb back on his bike and the pair rolled to the finish just glad that the fall hadn’t resulted in a much worse outcome.
Brian and Mark put all the Thursday and Tuesday nights training into practice to finish well up the field with a very good time of 58.02 with Mark starting strongly and Brian bringing the duo home in style
Team Pickard worked well as a pair with young Seb doing his fair share of the work as he and his Dad fought to finish 19th with 56.58s.Looks like this could be the season when lad overtakes Dad in the pecking order.
A schoolboy error cost Martin and Miles the chance of a top ten finish as the Upstairs Downstairs paring missed their start time and incurred a 30sec penalty and had to go off last.
Martin doesn’t seem to have much luck on this course as his partner punctured last year. The positives they can both take out of it is that both riders were going very well and Miles could be a threat for the club TT’s this season.
Bridlington CC had by far the best showing and we should be proud of the fact that out of a club with under 30 members can field this many pairs, and all race well and encourage each other.
We wish Steve a speedy recovery.
