This picture sums up the different feelings that road racing brings out in us.
Dave Waller on the left looks relieved to have finished in one piece and doesn’t seem to have plenty left in the tank, even enough to smile for the camera.
Compo in the middle has clearly relished the race and has attacked throughout.
Me on the right has not enjoyed a single minute of it, and has given everything just to finish within sight of the back of the peleton!
The look on my face sums up what racing bikes is all about, pain and suffering, but the deep down great feeling of testing yourself and pitting your wits against others.
The start of the season is only two months away so we can do it all again
